You Could Be a Character

I love it when strangers or people who don’t know me all that well ask me how I manage to come up with the stories I do. If you knew me well you would know I have a degree in BS. Bull Sh*t. One that has turned out quiet useful may I add.
Growing up my grandfather, my mother’s father, was my best friend. Growing up on his farm in rural Illinois I learned a lot. Mainly I learned how to bs. I learned at a very early age how to talk. Talk fast. Talk much. And talk annoyingly. At as early as probably 8 months I was rattling on my baby talk when my Grandfather’s good friend picked me up and put me on his lap and said, “We’re going to call you Gabby, for as much as you talk.” Been the same CB handle my entire life.
But the fact that writing stories comes so easy and naturally to me isn’t anyone who knows me biggest concern. After the release of my debut novel Summer’s Ridge a friend was reading it and as she read it she would message me and say things like ‘I know who this character is supposed to be!’ I would let her down easy saying that none of my characters were molded after anyone we knew. Then she would point it out to me. I was wrong. My characters were exactly like the people we had grown up around.
So come with good warning. If you know me or any other writer, mind your P’s and Q’s. I would hate for you to end up a villain in a book.
Happy Reading.
